Nationally, the wave has been to focus on local State’s Attorney/prosecutors in order to end mass incarceration. The local prosecutor has the ability to control sentencing in their jurisdiction. For instance, if a prosecutor wanted to increase penalties for a particular crime, it could increase the number of people imprisoned for those offenses. A prosecutor has the ability to change the localities focus from tough on crime to smart on crime and offer second chances - a framework that we in Prince George's County support.

We came up with a platform for a progressive State's Attorney which includes second chances and refusing to over-incarcerate Marylanders!

We asked each of the Prince Geoge's County State's Attorney candidates, Aisha Braveboy, Michael Lyles and Sen. Victor Ramirez to answer a questionnaire about their policies. Thanks to one of our members, John Tabori and the Justice Collaborative, we've compiled a comparison of each response.
